KEF Refines Entry-Level Q Series with Metamaterial for 2nd-Generation Range

From the loudspeaker manufacturer celebrating over 60 years of revolutionising how we experience sound, KEF has announced its newly released second-generation Q Series loudspeaker range.

This new lineup, born from the award-winning Q Series, features its proprietary Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™), first announced back in 2020 and first heard in the LS50 Meta update. KEF claims that MAT™ absorbs 99% of the unwanted sound from the rear of the driver.

The Q Series 2nd-Gen lineup consists of eight speakers designed to suit the needs of those looking to elevate their at-home audio experience through stereo or multi-channel home cinema.

At the heart of the Q range is the Uni-Q driver, which is now in its 12-generation and found in all eight models.

The KEF Q11 Meta, Q7 Meta, Q Concerto Meta and Q6 Meta models have all been updated from a 2.5-way to 3-way design, which KEF says offers improved detail and clarity, as well as a newly introduced “Shadow Flare”, said to provide better high-frequency dispersion and minimising cabinet edge diffraction. The crossover has also received further optimisation and enhancements.

As it has become celebrated for, KEF's Q Series speakers feature a contemporary minimalist design with a satin finish that offers a premium but subtle look. Carefully selected colour driver units match the chosen finish, ensuring they blend effortlessly into any interior.

Dedicated grilles are included with the speakers and are colour-matched to maintain the cohesive aesthetic, while the magnetic fixing provides a secure and precise fit in keeping with the clean and seamless styling of the Q Series.

Available in Satin Black, Satin White, and Walnut finishes and available from October 2024, the KEF Q Series with MAT™ is priced in Australia as follows:

Q1 Meta Bookshelf (US$600 a pair), Q3 Meta Bookshelf (US$800 a pair), Q Concerto Meta Bookshelf (US$1,300 a pair), Q7 Meta Floorstanding (US$1,800 a pair), Q11 Meta Floorstanding (US$1,100 a pair), Q6 Meta Centre (US$800 each), Q8 Meta Surround (US$800 a pair), and Q4 Meta Onwall (US$500 each).
